Mandarin Classes - Friday [CHINESE]

We are excited to announce that The Circle will be offering Mandarin classes specifically designed for K to 3rd grade children. These classes aim to foster a deeper connection with their families and help them embrace their cultural roots with pride.

"Engaging Chinese Learning" course primarily uses the Jinan University "Chinese" （暨南《中文》) textbook. This textbook was commissioned by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China and developed by the College of Chinese Language and Culture at Jinan University. It was designed specifically for the needs and characteristics of overseas Chinese education, aimed at Chinese elementary school students attending after school Chinese learning in Europe and America. The goal of this curriculum is to teach students with basic skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Mandarin Chinese, while also imparting fundamental knowledge of Chinese culture. This foundation supports further study of Chinese language and culture. Hedy Yang also incorporates fun crafts and drawing activities into the lessons to enhance students' ability to apply and understand Chinese in practical communication.

The classes will be taught by Ms. Hedy Yang, who is the founder of Goat in a Boat Art and has over ten years of rich experience in the field of education, especially in Chinese language teaching, where she has a deep professional background. She has worked as a Chinese teacher at an international school in Shanghai and as a Chinese curriculum consultant at a private school in Seattle, dedicating herself to integrating Chinese education with international curricula. She excels at designing innovative teaching plans, allowing students to learn Chinese in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, enhancing their language skills and cultural understanding.

As an AMI-certified Montessori teacher for children aged 3-6, Ms. Yang combines Montessori teaching methods with Chinese education, focusing on the critical developmental stages of children. She develops Chinese courses tailored to different age groups, emphasizing personalized and interactive teaching approaches. Through a wealth of artistic activities and immersive language experiences, she helps students solidify their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Chinese. Ms. Yang believes that learning Chinese is not just about mastering the language, but also about inheriting and understanding the culture. Through art, she creates a unique Chinese learning environment for her students, making Chinese a bridge for them to connect with the world.

Dates: Classes will start in October 2024 and continue until June 2025.

Time: Every Friday from 4:00pm to 4:45pm.

“趣味学中文”课程主要使用暨南《中文》教材。此教材是中华人民共和国国务院侨务办公室委托暨南大学华文学院结合海外华文教育的实际需要和特点，为欧美地区课后中文学校的华裔小学生学习中文而编写的。其教学目的是使学生经过此教材的学习与训练，具备汉语普通话听、说、读、写的基本能力，了解中华文化常识，为进一步学习中国语言文化打下良好的基础。Hedy Yang老师也会在学习中穿插趣味手工及画画，以提高学生对中文在实际运用中的交流和理解能力。

杨老师是 Goat in a Boat Art 的创始人，在教育领域拥有超过十年的丰富经验，特别是在中文教学方面有着深厚的专业积累。她曾在上海的国际学校担任中文教师，并在西雅图的私立学校担任中文课程顾问，致力于将中文教育与国际课程接轨。她擅长设计创新性的教学方案，使学生在轻松有趣的氛围中学习中文，提升语言能力和文化理解。

作为一名 AMI 认证的蒙特梭利 3-6 岁教师，杨老师将蒙特梭利教学法与中文教育相结合，注重儿童发展的关键阶段，针对性地开发适合各年龄段的中文课程。她强调个性化和互动式的教学方法，通过丰富的艺术活动和沉浸式语言体验，帮助学生扎实掌握中文的听、说、读、写技能。杨老师相信，中文学习不仅是语言的掌握，更是文化的传承和理解。通过 艺术，她为学生们打造了一个独特的中文学习环境，让中文成为他们与世界沟通的桥梁。

课程安排: 整个课程将在2024年10月份开始至2025年6月结束。
